(a) The physical state of the reactants and products in a chemical reaction can be shown by using the letters in the round brackets. If it is solid then (s), if it is liquid (l) gas (g), and aqueous (aq).
Example: Ca(OH)2 (aq) + CO2 (g) → CaCO3 (s) + H2O _(l)_
