"hello everyone welcome to later this is
priya
and here we have a question about the
nucleus of
atom so let us look into the question
composition
of the nuclei of two atomic species x
and y are given as under so protons
of x are six and protons of y are six
neutrons of x are six and protons of
x y are eight so give the mass
numbers of x and y what is the relation
between
the two species so here to find out the
mass numbers of x and y we have a
formula that mass of number
mass number
of x is
protons plus neutrons so we know that
in x we have six protons and 6 neutrons
so 6
plus 6 it gives 12
and coming to the mass number of
y is again proton plus neutron
which is 6 plus 8 6 plus
8 equal to 14
so they are the same elements
as their atomic numbers are the same
they are isotopes as they differ in the
number of neutrons and hence their mass
numbers are different
so the coming to the relation of this x
and y
so both these atoms
atom x and atom phi have
same atomic number so
they belong to the same atoms but coming
to their
atomic mass they have different atomic
mass so that these two
atoms are iso
bars sorry these two atoms are
isotopes because they have same atomic
number but different
months okay so hope you understand this
