 # Selina Solutions Class 9 Physics Solutions for Exercise 5A in Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 Upthrust In Fluids Archimedes Principle And Floatation

A body weighs 450 gf in air and 310 gf when completely immersed in water. Find:

(i) The volume of the body,

(ii) The loss in weight of the body, and

(iii) The upthrust on the body.

State the assumption made in part (i).

Given: the weight of the body in air=450kgf

Weight of the body in water =310kgf

Assumption: density of water = 1gcm-3

(i) To find the volume of the body

The volume of the body = density of water x loss in weight

= 1 x (difference in the bodyweight)

= 1 x (450-310)

= 140 cm3

(ii) To find the loss in weight of the body

Loss in weight = weight of the body in the air – the weight of the body in water

= 450 – 310

= 140 gf

(iii) To find the upthrust on the body

Upthrust = loss in weight = 140gf

The assumption made is the density of water is 1g cm-3

"hello students welcome to leader learning this is ashwini i teach science at leno so here in this question a body weighs 450 gf in air and 310 gf when completely immersed in water so we have to find the volume of the body the loss and weight of the body and the up thrust on the body and we have to also state the assumption made in part one so here the given data is weight of the body in here weight of the body in water and the assumption we have made is density of air is one gram per cubic centimeter so now i am going to take the first part that is the volume of body is equals to density of water multiplied by loss and weight so here i am putting the values density of water is 1 multiplied by loss in water is the difference in difference in body weight okay so here i'm writing it as 1 multiplied by 450 minus 310 okay so we got the answer after calculating this that is 140 so this is our final answer for the volume of the body that is 140. now if i'm talking about the second part the loss in body weight so loss in body weight is equals to weight of the body in air minus weight of the body in water so here we got the values that is 450 minus 310 so the answer is 140 gf now for the first part the upthrust the upthrust is equals to loss of weight loss and weight okay it is equals to loss in weight loss and weight now it is 140 gf so the uprest is also 140 gf now last part is we have to state the assumption here so the assumption is that the density of water is taken as one gram per centimeter cube okay it is one gram per centimeter cube i hope everything is clear to you if you have any doubts then please put it down in the comment section for more such video solutions please subscribe leader learning thank you "
