Q11) Convert the following quantities as indicated :

(a) 200 kg = .............metric tonne

(b) 150 kg = .............quintal

(c) 10lb = ............. kg

(d) 250 g = ............. kg

(e) 0.01 kg = ............. g

(f) 5mg = ............. kg

Solution :

(a) 1000kg =1 metric tonne

1 kg = 1/1000 metric tonne

So, 2500kg= \frac{1}{1000}\times2500 = 2.5metric tonne

(b) 100kg = 1quintal

So,150kg = \frac{1}{100}\times150 = 1.5 quintal

(c) 1lb = 453.59g

So, 453.59\times\frac{1}{1000} kg= 0.45359kg

And 10lb = 0.45359 x 10kg = 4.5359kg

(d) 1000g = 1kg

1g = \frac{1}{1000} kg

So, 2500g = \frac{1}{1000}\times2500 kg = 2.5kg

(e) 0.01kg = 10g

1kg = 1000g

So, 0.01kg =1000 x 0.01 g = 10g

(f) 5mg = 5\times10^{-6}kg

=\frac{5}{1000}g or 5\times10^{-3}g=\frac{5}{1000\times1000} or 5\times10^{-6}kg
