Lakhmir Singh Solutions Class 9 Physics Solutions for Exercise in Chapter 5 - Sound

Question 60 Exercise

a) How is the sound produced? Explain with the help of an example.

b) How does sound from a sound-producing body travel through the air to reach our ears? Illustrate your answer with the help of a labelled diagram

Answer:

a) Sound is produced when the object vibrates. For example, the production of sound from the strings of the guitar is possible because when the strings of the guitar are struck, there is vibrations generation which travels through air molecules and reaches our ear as sound.

b) Sound from sound-producing body travel through the air to reach our ears is explained with the help of a tuning fork. When a tuning fork is struck against a hard surface, there is the production of vibrations that travel through the air. These waves are longitudinal and move in the same direction as the movement of the sound. This is how the sound reaches our ears.

Video transcript
"welcome plito q a video and we need your lido tutor bringing you this question on your screen how is sound produced explain with the help of an example okay so sound is produced when an object vibrates an example of this would be for example the production of sound from the strings of the guitar is an example of this the production of sound from the strings of a guitar right are stuck is possible because when the strings of the guitar are struck there is vibrations is possible because when the strings of the guitar struck are struck what happens is they vibrate right and this vibration travels through air molecules and reaches our air as soon they vibrate and these vibrations travel through air molecules and reach our air ears as some right so this answers the first question let us look at part b how does sound from a sound producing body travel through the air to reach our ears illustrate your answer with the help of a level diagram so this is the diagram we have drawn right uh so the traveling of sound is illustrated with the help of a tuning fork right tuning for okay how do we do this when a tunic tuning fork is struck against a hard surface okay when this tuning fork is struck against a hard surface what happens you guys have must must have experienced this right there is production of vibrations so vibrations are produced right and these vibrations travel through here right so the vibrations now travel through air right now these waves are longitudinal waves and move in the same direction as the movement of sound this is how sound reaches our ear okay so if you still have a doubt please leave a comment below do like the video and subscribe to our channel i'll see you in our next video until then bye guys keep learning"
