# RD Sharma Solutions Class 10 Mathematics Solutions for Probability Exercise 13.1 in Chapter 13 - Probability

Question 77 Probability Exercise 13.1

A bag contains 3 red balls and 5 black balls. A ball is drawn at random from the bag.

What is the probability that the ball drawn is red.

Solution:

The possibility that an event will occur is referred to as the probability of the event. In mathematics, this possibility of an event happening is represented by a number between 0 and 1.

Given,

A bag contains 3 red and 5 black balls.

So, the total no. of possible outcomes = 8 (3 red + 5 black)

Let E = event of getting red ball.

No. of favourable outcomes = 3 (as there are 3 red)

Probability, P(E) = Number of favourable outcomes/ Total number of outcomes

P(E) = 3/8
