Question 76 Probability Exercise 13.1

A bag contains 8 red, 6 white and 4 black balls. A ball is drawn at random from the bag. Find the probability that the drawn ball is Red or white.

Answer:

Solution:

The probability of any event occurring is defined as the ratio of favorable outcomes to all possible outcomes.

Total number of balls = 8 + 6 + 4 = 18

Total no. of possible outcomes =18

Let E = Event of getting red or white ball

No. of favourable outcomes = 14 (8 red balls + 6 white balls)

Probability, P(E) = Number of favourable outcomes/ Total number of outcomes

P(E) = 14/18

P(E) = 7/9
