Question 10 Mensuration Exercise 17.5

How many shots each having diameter 3 cm can be made from a cuboidal lead solid of dimensions 9 cm x 11 cm x 12 cm?

Answer:

Solution:

When we convert one solid shape to another, its volume remains the same, no matter how different the new shape is.

Given dimensions of the cuboidal solid = 9 cm× 11 cm× 12 cm

Volume of the cuboidal solid = 9×11×12 = 1188 cm3

Diameter of shot = 3 cm

So radius of shot, r = 3/2 = 1.5 cm

Volume of shot = (4/3)π r3

= (4/3) π x1.53

= (4/3)x(22/7)x1.53

= 297/21 cm3

Number of shots made from cuboidal lead of solid = 1188÷(297/21)

= 1188×21/297

= 84

Hence the number of shots made from cuboidal lead of solid is 84. M L Aggarwal - Understanding ICSE Mathematics - Class 10 chapter Mensuration Question 10 Solution image
