Find the volume of the wood in the rocket. Use π = 3.14 and give answers correct to 2 decimal places.
Solution:
The volume of the combined solids will equal the sum of the volumes of the separate solids. So the volume of rocket will be the sum of volume of cone and cylinder.
Volume of wood in the rocket = Volume of cone + Volume of cylinder
= (1/3)π R2H + π r2h
= π ((R2H/3) + r2h))
= 3.14×((2.52×6/3) + 1.52×20)
= 3.14×((6.25×2) + 2.25×20)
= 3.14×(12.5+ 45)
= 3.14×57.5
= 180.55 cm3
Hence the volume of the wood in the rocket is 180.55 cm3.
