Find: The total surface area of a hemisphere of radius 21 cm.
Solution:
By dividing the sphere into two equal halves, we can produce a hemisphere. The base area of the hemisphere added to its curved surface area gives the hemisphere its total surface area.
Total surface area of the hemisphere = 3π r2
= 3×(22/7)×212
= 3×22×3×21
= 4158 cm2
Hence the total surface area of the hemisphere is 4158 cm2.
