The given figure shows a metal pipe 77 cm long. The inner diameter of a cross-section is 4 cm and the outer one is 4.4 cm.
Find its outer curved surface area
Solution:
In cylinder, ther are two types of curved surface area. One is inner surface area and the other one is outer surface area.
Given height of the metal pipe = 77 cm
Inner diameter = 4 cm
Inner radius, r = d/2 = 4/2 = 2 cm
Outer diameter = 4.4 cm
Outer radius, R = d/2 = 4.4/2 = 2.2 cm
Outer curved surface area = 2π Rh
= 2×(22/7)×2.2×77
= 1064.8 cm2
Hence the outer curved surface area is 1064.8 cm2.
