Take π = 22/7 unless stated otherwise.
Find the total surface area of a solid cylinder of radius 5 cm and height 10 cm. Leave your answer in terms of π.
Solution:
A cylinder's total surface area is equal to the total surface areas of all of its faces. The sum of the cylinder's curved area and circular areas equals the total surface area with radius "r" and height "h".
Given radius of the cylinder, r = 5 cm
Height of the cylinder, h = 10 cm
Total surface area = 2 π r(r+h)
= 2×5 π (5+10)
= 2×5×15 π
= 150 π cm2
Hence the total surface area of the solid cylinder is 150 π cm2.
