∆ABC ~ ∆DEF. If BC = 3 cm, EF = 4 cm and area of ∆ABC = 54 sq. cm. Determine the area of ∆DEF.
Solution:-
The square of any ratio between any two corresponding sides of two similar triangles is equal to the ratio of their areas.
From the question it is given that,
∆ABC ~ ∆DEF
BC = 3 cm, EF = 4 cm
Area of ∆ABC = 54 sq. cm.
We know that,
Area of ∆ABC/ area of ∆DEF = BC2/EF2
54/area of ∆DEF = 32/42
54/area of ∆DEF = 9/16
By cross multiplication we get,
Area of ∆DEF = (54 × 16)/9
= 6 × 16
= 96 cm2
