A (2, – 4), B (3, 3) and C (– 1, 5) are the vertices of triangle ABC.
Find the equation of: the median of the triangle through A.
Solution:
Given, A (2, – 4), B (3, 3) and C (– 1, 5) are the vertices of triangle ABC
D is the mid-point of BC
So, the co-ordinates of D will be
((3 – 1)/2, (3 + 5)/2) = (2/2, 8/2) = (1, 4)
Now,
Slope of median AD is = 4-(-4)/ 1-2 = 8/-1=-8
Equation of median AD will be
y -(-4) = -8( x-2)
y+4= -8x +16
y= -8x+ 12 is the required equation of median AD
