Q13) Express each of the following rational numbers to the lowest terms:

(i) \frac{12}{15}

(ii) \frac{-120}{144}

(iii) \frac{-48}{-72}

(iv) \frac{14}{-56}

Solution 13:

(i) \frac{12}{15}

On dividing numerator and denominator by 3

\frac{12\div3}{15\div3}=\ \frac{4}{5}

(ii) \frac{-120}{144}

On dividing numerator and denominator by 12

\frac{-120\div12}{144\div12}=\ \frac{-10}{12}

(iii) \frac{-48}{-72}

On dividing numerator and denominator by (-24)

\frac{-48\div\left(-24\right)}{-72\div\left(-24\right)}=\frac{2}{3}

(iv) \frac{14}{-56}

On dividing numerator and denominator by 14

\frac{14\div14}{-56\div14}=\ \frac{1}{-4}
