RD Sharma Solutions Class 8 Mathematics Solutions for Volume Surface Area Cuboid Cube Exercise 21.1 in Chapter 21 - Volume Surface Area Cuboid Cube

Question 1 Volume Surface Area Cuboid Cube Exercise 21.1

Find the volume of a cuboid whose

(i) length = 12 cm, breadth = 8 cm, height = 6 cm

(ii) length = 1.2 m, breadth = 30 cm, height = 15 cm

(iii)length = 15 cm, breadth = 2.5 dm, height = 8 cm.

Answer:

(i) The given details are:

Length of a cuboid = 12 cm Breadth of a cuboid = 8 cm

Height of a cuboid = 6 cm By using the formula

Volume of a cuboid = length × breadth × height

= 12 × 8 ×6

= 576 cm3

(ii) The given details are:

Length of a cuboid = 1.2 m = 120 cm

Breadth of a cuboid = 30 cm

Height of a cuboid = 15 cm

By using the formula

Volume of a cuboid = length × breadth × height

= 120 × 30 × 15

= 54000 cm3

(iii) The given details are:

Length of a cuboid = 15 cm

Breadth of a cuboid = 2.5 dm = 25 cm

Height of a cuboid = 8 cm

By using the formula

Volume of a cuboid = length × breadth × height

= 15 × 25 × 8

= 3000 cm3

[Music] hello dear student i am sunita knight from leader learning i am here to help you do this sum it says find the volume of a cuboid whose length breadth and height is given right in each of the three sums you can see that the three dimensions are given now we know that the volume of any object is the space occupied by it and in the case of the cuboid to calculate the volume we use this formula the length into the breadth into the height all right so let's start working out the sums the first one the length is equal to 12 centimeters the breadth is equal to 8 centimeters [Music] and the height is equal to 6 centimeters so volume [Music] is equal to 12 into 8 into 6 which is equal to 96 into 6 [Music] which is equal to six sixes are 36 six nines are 54 and 3 57 576 centimeter cubed by centimeter cube because we multiply the units as well so centimeter into centimeter centimeter squared centimeter squared into one more centimeter gives us centimeter cubed let's get to the second sum the second sum says the length is [Music] 1.2 meters the breadth is 30 centimeters and the height is 15 centimeters so now the length is in a different unit it is in meters while the other two are in centimeters so let's convert the length into centimeters so we know that one meter is equal to 100 centimeters so 1.2 meters would be 1.2 multiplied by 100 which is equal to 120 centimeters so let's use this unit let's use this value and we calculate the volume to be equal to 120 multiplied by 30 multiplied by 15 which is equal to 3600 into 15 which works out to 54 000 cubic centimeters and the third sum is length is given as 15 centimeters breadth is given as 2.5 decimeters [Music] and height is equal to 8 centimeters so once again the value of the breadth is given in decimeters so let's convert that into centimeter since both the other quantities are in centimeters so we know that one decimeter equals 10 centimeters so 2.5 decimeters would be equal to 2.5 multiplied by 10 which is equal to 25 centimeters all right so we have volume equals [Music] 15 multiplied by 25 multiplied by 8 which is equal to 15 into 25 is 375 [Music] multiplied by eight equals three thousand centimeter cube thus we have found the values of all the volumes the first one is 576 centimeter cubed the second one is 54 000 centimeter cubed and the third one is 3 000 centimeter cube i hope you understood the solution do drop in a comment if there is any doubt visit our channel regularly for more homework solutions and subscribe to it for updates thank you
