# RD Sharma Solutions Class 6 Mathematics Solutions for Ratio, Proportion and Unitary Method Exercise 9.4 in Chapter 9 - Ratio, Proportion and Unitary Method

Question 12 Ratio, Proportion and Unitary Method Exercise 9.4

A car travels 165 km in 3 hours

(i) How long will it take to travel 440 km?

(ii) How far will it travel in 7 hours?

Distance travelled by car = 165 km in 3 hours

So the speed of car = Distance/ time = 165/3 = 55 km per hour

(i) Time taken to travel 440 km = 440/55 = 8 hours

(ii) Distance covered in 7 hours = 55 (7) = 385 km

Video transcript
hello students welcome to lead homework my name is nira nirola and in today's q a video we are going to solve a word problem so let us read this question together a car travels 165 kilometer in three hours how long will it take to travel 440 kilometer the first question the second question how far will it travel in seven hours okay so let us see what is given to us first it is said that a car a car travels 165 kilometer in three hours right and the question is asking us to find out how long will it take to travel 440 kilometer how far will it travel in seven hour so these are the two questions that we are supposed to solve now in order to do that what we are going to do is we will first try to see what is the formula we need to use here there are two ways of doing it uh so basically one is to know what is the formula of speed we know that speed equal to distance by time the distance traveled and the time taken right so from this we can also derive what is the formula of time that is equal to distance by speed right and further from here again we can extract what is the formula of distance that is equal to speed into time so we are going to make use of this formula in our case to solve this problem so since to us already the distance and the time taken by the car is given to us we can easily find what is the speed of the car therefore speed of the car is equal to 165 divided by 3 kilometer and r so we know that this will give us three five size 50 and three fives is 15 that is 55 kilometer per hour so speed basically is the time taken or uh not the time taken speed basically is the distance cover in one hour okay so now the distance covered by the car in one r is 55 kilometer per hour it is also called a speed now let us see what is the question given to us the first question is how long will it take to travel 440 kilometer so basically the question is asking us the time and the distance given to us in this case is 440 kilometer so we are going to make use of this formula that is time is equal to distance by speed so the time taken the time taken to travel time taken to travel 440 kilometer 440 kilometer is equal to basically the formula we are supposed to use here is time so that is the distance that is in this case is 440 kilometer and the speed what is the speed 55 kilometer per hour right so now on calculating this we will realize that 440 divided by 55 will give me eight hours so therefore the time dragon to travel 440 kilometer is equal to the distance we are the distance that is 440 kilometer divided by the speed that is 55 okay now let us go on to the second question the second question that is asking us is how far will it travel in seven hours now the question here is to find the distance because it's saying how far right so now in order to find the distance which formula am i going to use the third one which is equal to speed into time right so in this case what will be the time the time is will be seven hours therefore the distance traveled in seven hours is going to be the speed that is 55 kilometer per hour of the car into time that is seven so 55 into seven will give me 750 is thirty five three in a hand seven five is thirty five thirty eight three eighty five kilometers basically so therefore what we can conclude here is that for one right the required time the required time is 8r and in the second case the required distance is the required distance is 385 kilometers so with this we have completed this q a video if there is any doubt please post it in the comment below and for such videos do subscribe to lido bye take care
