Question 3 Perimeter and Area - Exercise

36 unit squares are joined to form a rectangle with the least perimeter. The perimeter of the rectangle is

(a) 12 units (b) 26 units (c) 24 units (d) 36 units

Answer:

(b) 26 units

From the question it is given that, area of rectangle = 36 units2

36 can be written as = 6 × 6

= (2 × 3) × (2 × 3)

= 22 × 32

= 4 × 9

Then, the sides of the rectangle are 4 cm and 9 cm.

We know that, perimeter of the rectangle = 2 (length + breadth)

= 2 (4 + 9)

= 2 (13)

= 26 units
