Q1. There are two cuboidal boxes as shown in the adjoining figure. Which box requires the lesser amount of material to make?

Solution 1:

Amount of material required will be equal to area of the box.

Total surface,

area of cuboid=2(lb+bh+hl)

l=60cm

b=40cm

h=50cm

total surface area=2\left(60\times40+40\times50+50\times60\right)

=2\left(2400+2000+3000\right)

=14800\ cm^2

total surface area of cube=6l^2

box (b) ,l=50cm

total surface area =6\times\left(50\times50\right)

=`15000\ cm^2

Box (a) a cuboid will require less material to be made.
