Q10. There is a pentagonal shaped park as shown in the figure.

For finding its area Jyoti and Kavita divided it in two different ways.

Find the area of this park using both ways. Can you suggest some other way

of finding its area?

Ans 10. Let the pentagon be ABCDE

Jyoti's way of finding area:-

Area of pentagon=2\times area\ of\ trapezium\ ABCF

=2\times\ \frac{1}{2}\times\left(BC\times AF\right)\times CF

=\left(15+30\right)\times\frac{15}{2}

=337.5\ m^2

Kavita's way of findng area:-

Area of pentagon=area of triangle ABE+Area of EBCD

=\frac{1}{2}\times\left(EB\times AF\right)+\left(BC+CD\right)

\frac{1}{2}\times\left(15\times15\right)+\left(15\times15\right)

=337.5\ m^2
