NCERT Solutions Class 8 Mathematics Solutions for Exercise 1.1 in Chapter 1 - Rational Numbers

Question 53 Exercise 1.1

Write.

(i) The rational number that does not have a reciprocal.

(ii) The rational numbers that are equal to their reciprocal.

(iii) The rational number that is equal to its negative.

Answer:

(i) The rational number that does not have a reciprocal is 0.

Reason: \begin{aligned} &0=\frac{0}{1}\\ &\text { Reciprocal of } 0=\frac{1}{0}, \text { which is not defined. } \end{aligned}

(ii) The rational numbers that are equal to their reciprocals are 1 and -1.

Reason: \begin{aligned} &1=\frac{1}{1}\\ &\text { Reciprocal of } 1=\frac{1}{1}=1 \text { Similarly, Reciprocal of }-1=-1 \end{aligned}

(iii) The rational number that is equal to its negative is 0.

Reason:

Negative of 0=-0=0

Video transcript
"hello students i am rita your math leader tutor and the today's question is write in the first part the rational number that does not have a reciprocal and the answer of the first part is 0 because the reciprocal of 0 is because the resin of 0 is 1 by 0 that is that is infinity that is does not exist that's why 0 have no resi broken now we come to the second part the question is the rational number that are equal to their reciprocal and the answer of this question is 1 because the reciprocal of 1 is the reciprocal of 1 is again 1 by 1 it becomes again 1 so the answer is 1 now in the third part the question is the rational number that is equal to its negative the rational number that is equal to its negative so the answer of this question is 0 because minus 0 is equal to again 0 and that 0 by 1 is a rational number and minus 0 by one is again a zero so the answer of this question is zero i hope you like this video so please subscribe leto for more updates and do comment your questions thank you "
