Q1) Write these fractions appropriately as additions or subtractions :

Solution 1:

(a) Shaded area in 1st rectangle = \frac{1}{5}

Shaded area in 2nd rectangle = \frac{2}{5}

Shaded area in 3rd rectangle = \frac{3}{5}

Hence, \frac{1}{5}+\frac{2}{5}=\frac{3}{5}

(b) Shaded area in 1st circle = \frac{5}{5}

Shaded area in 2nd circle = \frac{3}{5}

Shaded area in 3rd circle = \frac{2}{5}

hence, \frac{5}{5}=\ \frac{3}{5}+\frac{2}{5}

(c) Shaded circles in 1st rectangle = \frac{2}{6}

Shaded circles in 2nd rectangle = \frac{3}{6}

Shaded circles in 3rd rectangle = \frac{5}{6}

Hence, \frac{2}{6}+\frac{3}{6}=\frac{5}{6}

(a) Shaded area in 1st rectangle = \frac{1}{5}

Shaded area in 2nd rectangle = \frac{2}{5}

Shaded area in 3rd rectangle = \frac{3}{5}

Hence, \frac{1}{5}+\frac{2}{5}=\frac{3}{5}

(b) Shaded area in 1st circle = \frac{5}{5}

Shaded area in 2nd circle = \frac{3}{5}

Shaded area in 3rd circle = \frac{2}{5}

hence, \frac{5}{5}=\ \frac{3}{5}+\frac{2}{5}

(c) Shaded circles in 1st rectangle = \frac{2}{6}

Shaded circles in 2nd rectangle = \frac{3}{6}

Shaded circles in 3rd rectangle = \frac{5}{6}

Hence, \frac{2}{6}+\frac{3}{6}=\frac{5}{6}
