Q11) Out of 1800 students in a school, 750 opted basketball, 800 opted cricket and remaining

opted table tennis. If a student can opt only one game, find the ratio of

(a) Number of students who opted basketball to the number of students who opted

table tennis.

(b) The number of students who opted cricket to the number of students opting basketball.

(c) The number of students who opted basketball to the total number of students.

SOLUTION:

Given,

the number of students =1800

opted for cricket=800

table tennis=?

table tennis= no. of students - [opted for basket ball+opted for cricket]

=1800 - [750+800]

=1800-1550

=250

i) required ratio =

number\ of\ students\ who\ opted\ for\ \frac{basketball}{table\ tennis}=\frac{750}{250}=\frac{75}{25}\frac{75\div25}{25\div25}=\frac{3}{1}=3:1

[HCF of 75,25=3]

ii) required ratio=number\ of\ students\ who\ opted\ \frac{cricket}{basketball}=\frac{800}{750}=\frac{80}{75}=\frac{80\div5}{75\div5}=\frac{16}{15}=16:15

[HCF of 80,75 is 5]

iii) required ratio

\ \frac{number\ of\ students\ who\ optedbasketball}{total\ number\ of\ students}=\frac{750}{1800}=\frac{75}{180}=\frac{75\div15}{180\div15}=\frac{5}{12}=5:12

[HCF of 75 and 180=15]
