Q13) Starting from carbon dioxide how would you obtain -

(b) A fertilizer

(c) A highly poisonous gas

Solution:

(a) Carbonic acid:

When carbon dioxide dissolves in water, it forms carbonic acid.

CO_2+H_2O\ →\ H_2CO_3

(b) Urea:

Urea is a nitrogenous fertilizer formed in a reaction between CO2 & Ammonia.

2NH_3+CO_2\ →\ [NH_2]_2CO+\ H_2O

(c) Carbon monoxide:

It is a poisonous gas formed by reduction of CO2

CO_2+C\ →\ 2CO

(d) Black particles of carbon:

When magnesium is burnt in CO2, it produces black particles of carbon.

2Mg+CO_2\ →\ 2MgO+C
