Question 28 Number Problems

22.4 liters of gas weighs 70 g at S.T.P. Calculate the eight of the gas if it occupies a volume of 20 liters

at 27oC and 700 mm Hg of pressure.

Answer:

Step 1

V1 = 20 litres

P1 = 700 mm

T1 = 300 K

V2=?

T2 = 273 K

P2 = 760 mm

By gas equation

P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2

700 x 20 /300= 760 x V2/273

V2 = 791 x 7/76 = 637 = 16.76/38

Step 2

22.4 litres of the gas at STP weighs = 70 g

16.76 litres of the gas has a weight at STP =

70 x 16.76/22.4 = 52.38
