A certain amount of a gas occupies a volume of 0.4 liters at 17o c. To what temperature should it be heated so that its volume gets (a) doubled (b) reduced to half, pressure remaining constant

V1 = 0.4 L

V2 = 0.4 × 2L

T1 = 17°C (17 + 273) = 290 K

T2=?

V/T1 = V2/T2

0.4/290 = 0.8/T2

T2 = 290 x 2

T2 = 580- 273

T2 = 307o c

b) V1 = 0.4 L

V2 = 0.2 L

T1 = 17°C (17 + 273) = 290 K

T2= ?

V1/T1= V2/T2

0.4/290= 0.2/T2

T2 = 290 x 0.2/0.4

T2= 145 K

T2= 145- 273 = - 128o c
