(a) What is a non-communicable disease ?

(b) What are coommunicable diseases ?

Solution :

(a) Non communicable diseases are those which are not caused by any germ, therefore these diseases cannot spread from an infected person to a healthy person. These may be caused due to improper functioning of the body organs. Example : diabetes, heart attack, etc.

(b) Communicable diseases are those diseases which spread from an infected person to a healthy one. These diseases are caused by the germs known as pathogens. Example: chicken pox, fever.

(c) We can control the spreading of diseases by mosquitoes and houseflies by using repellants, throwing garbage in covered bins, avoid stagnation of water and checking breeding of insects.

(d) Public hygiene is equally important as personal hygiene as dirty can act as a breeding grounds for mosquitoes which can cause various diseases.

(e) The diseases that are caused due to lack of nutrients, vitamins, minerals as anaemia, and goitre are called deficiency diseases

(f) Nail-biting may cause many diseases as dirt trapped inside the nails have many bacteria-causing diseases.

Cutting nails from time to time prevents the cause of any harmful diseases.

(g) Regular exercise keeps our body strong and immune to many diseases, rest refreshes our body.

(h) Nowadays, eating fast food has become a serious problem for children. This leads to obesity, high body weight.

Fast food mainly contains high sodium, this leads to water retention. This is also rich in artificial sugar and fat which is not good for health at all and leads to obesity.

So, the presence of a huge amount of carbohydrate, oil, fat in fast food are the main reasons behind it.
